AOL-Can receive but can't send

I know this has been addressed a number of times, but I still can't figure out how to send mail from my AOL account in Windows mail. I keep getting this error message: [The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account: 'imap.aol.com', Server: 'smtp.aol.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E]
I have disabled the email scan in Norton 360 but still no luck--strange that I can send aol mail from my blackberry but not my computer (HP IQ506). I'm a novice so need some technical help in a non-technical way...

Hi mclute and welcome to Vista Forums

This indicates that you have incorrect settings. Have a look here for the instructions on how to set up AOL email: Use Microsoft Outlook Express 6 to read and send AOL email - AOL Help
In particular, I notice that you have your SMTP port set at 25. AOL uses port 587.

Hi Dwarf--can't thank you enough. Simply changed the smtp port to 587 in my settings and everything works like a charm. mclute

Glad to hear that you have resolved the problem. I forgot to mention in my reply that you could also use the web-based version. Simply go to AOL.com - Welcome to AOL and click on the Email icon (picture of an envelope) to sign in.

I am having the same problem...can't figure it out. It all started after I did the security test.
