AOE 2 Problem

I've recently gotten back into playing aoe 2 conquerors and everything was running fine. I recently updated my firewall and windows vista and now every time i try and run the game, windows says "Age of Empires 2 has stopped working" before it fully loads. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, running without my firewall, etc. Nothing seems to work. Any advice?

When you get the error, does it give you the option to send an error report to Microsoft? Sometimes they have a fix for you when you send a report and it maybe something simple, give it a go and see what happens, you maybe surprised :-)

Na, no option to send an error report. Just checks for a solution. However it does say it will notify me when a solution is available.

Have you tried running the game as administrator, or, if even that does not work, a different compatibility setting? AOE 2 is a fairly old game, and is not completely compatible with Vista. I personally had the game before too, and ran into the same issue with the game crashing, as well as texture errors.

To set the game to run as administrator: Right click on the shortcut > Select properties > Click on the compatibility tab > Select run as administrator and click OK.

Alternatively, you can also set the compatibility mode in the same manner. Just click on "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select an older OS, such as Windows XP.
