Another very slow download thread.

Hi guys, I've installed windows Vista few days ago and I'm having huge trouble with downloads.

At first i did everything that's out there to do. Fixing the half open connections, stopping netsh etc. My problem is when I'm downloading something with Firefox it wont go over 40KB it bounces between 20 and 40kbs. I'm not sure about uTorrent however, when i tried to download a movie it was downloading with 50kb but there wasn't many people seeding and when i tried to download something with lots of seeds it went up to 600kb so i think i somehow fixed utorrent. But with IE or Firefox i can't get it to working.

When i jump on my 2nd computer which is running Win XP Pro i can download anything from net with 500+kb but on vista I'm having lots of trouble. Also streaming video from sites like YouTube etc is extremely slow as well

Vista 64bit Home basic
AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual 5200
Asus M2N-E SLI Mobo
Nvidia nForce network onboard

Now I have ADSL2 running (not wireless) at home with a netgear router both computer connected to it. I tried changing the tcpip.sys with the cracked one but then i couldn't get onto the internet at all. Half open connections are at 100 atm and netsh auto is disabled. Any help will be appreciated

Hi, xavie, and welcome to the forums.

I fixed your post so it looks a lot cleaner - not sure why it wasn't allowing you to do so.

As for your problems - it seems strange that your browsers cannot download above 50 and yet uTorrent hits 500 and your other machine hits 600. Have you checked to see if your anti-malware program(s) are interfering with the downloads?

im not using any sort of protection software, no firewalls antiviruses or anything else also browsing is not a problem at all, the sites come up really fast its just downloading.. really weird :S

Hmmm....This is weird.

have you used any tweaks on your system at all? Anything to tweak, such as adjusting your MTU, or other network tweaks *before* the problem started?

nope its a new build just installed it couple of days ago didnt do any tweaking whats mtu?

lol Something you should not tweak with Vista. re-enable netsh auto, then reboot into Safe mode with networking and see if it makes a difference - if so, then reboot normally and see if it makes a difference again....

ok i did what u said it worked on safe mode but when i booted up normal it went back to downloading slow
