Another Network issue (Different one)

OK, I got XP and Vista to lan fine, works great, now.

3 Patch cables, 2 pcs (XP), 1 laptop (the vista),

1 Netgear Hub(4 ports)

Laptop and 1 XP(i shall call it xp1 and the bad one xp2) pc can lan 100%, the other PC(xp2) can be seen, it can access the other XP and the vista, it can move stuff and take it etc.

BUT!! the XP2 cannot be accessed on the network, and cant participate in LAN games etc. Tried firewall issues, even disabled it and antivirus.

I will add that windows firewall has given the pc a error code 2 (cant find the file) so i dont know if that is effecting it (it could of been set to not allow file sharing etc before it died and its stuck that way as its final 'Hey, F**K you!' but i'm not sure).

I've installed Zonealarm on the XP2 and then told it to take over and then tried setting that to low, then even to off, still cannot access the files, i get a 0x80070035 when i try from the Laptop (Vista) and a message saying 'Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network.

Any help would be exceedingly appreciated, i'm just about at my wits end with this damn network lol (all this just to play a damn lan game with the house mates lol).

PS this is what happens when i do ping from lappy to everything (using name not ip, ip does the same tho)

You might want to try booting XP2 to [safe mode + net] and testing what happens from there. If you get substantially better results, odds are that the problem is linked to firewall and/or anti-virus activity which is still happening in normal mode.

I Formated XP2 by recommendation by a friend (qualified network techie) as he stated the windows install had cocked up somewhere and it now works fine, wish it was just easier to fix things rather than flatten them tho, luckily all that was on the hd was XP as second HD has all the important things.
