All networking connections suddenly stopped working.

Ok guys, I'm new to these forums but not to computers. I joined here to get some ideas as I'm not having any luck searching by myself on this issue.

I have a Asus PW5 DH Deluxe with dual Marvell Yukon 88e8503 Gigabit network adapters and a Realtek Wireless adapter intergrated into the motherboard. I've been running Vista Ultimate x64 for well over a year with absolutely no issues whatsoever. This past Wednesday evening I finished using the computer, left it on like I normally do and left my office. When I came in the next morning none of the NICs where working. All I get is the "X" over the icons showing that nothing is plugged in. I tried all of the onboard NICs with no luck, I tried new cables, new drivers, I even tried a different router although all of the other machines on the network are fine. I looked and saw that some Windows updates were installed the previous night, suspected that they were the culprit I uninstalled them with no luck.

I tried Winsock reset, no luck. I installed a new NIC, no luck. I was going to do a system restore but for some reason my computer only had two restore points. The latest one being the reboot from the Windows updates being installed. I'm running Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. I've disable the firewall even though without getting a network connection period I don't see that being the problem. It didn't help.

All of the other machines on the network are humming along nicely, including the one I'm making this post with. Do you have any ideas that I could try?

I really want to NOT wipe and reload this system if possible. My gut tells me this is from the Windows updates but then why didn't uninstalling them help.

Sorry for the long winded post. Please someone have the answer.

I have the EXACT same problem. I've tried restores all the way back to mid spring and nothing works. I suspect that the update deleted something that it shouldn't have. I have the Realtek 5100 wireless card, which may be part of the issue seeing as we seem to share the same brand of card. Unfortunately, I have no advice nor a solution.

Ya I didn't figure the system restore would help. The worst part is last week I ran a backup with norton ghost but didn't double check that it completed. After trying everything else I was gonna restore my ghost image and found that I didn't have a backup. Yeepee. I love computers.

Hopefully someone will come along that knows an answer for this soon.

have you tried turning on the wireless capability? try Fn + F2, or Alt + Fn + F2

Thanks for the reply. I've tried the wireless capability. BTW this is a desktop machine, fn buttons don't apply here. I've tried everything I know to do. Anyone with ideas please chime in.

Ok, found a fix for this. After disabling IPv6 for all adapters the connection started working. Hope this helps someone else.

I have the very same problem. When i get a chance I will try the fix you used.

At first i thought I was the only one with this problem, but I am seeing more posts about this. If your fix does not work, or if it continues to work could you pleas eupdate here. I am seeing many 'fixes' that have only tempoerary effects.
