Advice please

Hi all,

Whilst I do not want to harp on about my website on a totally different site, I could do with some good advice.

I was told long ago that to get more members I could try signing up to newsgroups and although not bombard people with insisting that they join my site (I could'nt do that if I tried) and would'nt anyway, that I should maybe post that if anyone was looking for a live forum to take part in and post their stories and get support etc........I'm sure most will know what this person meant.

I did go to Newsgroups but all I found were the odd decent posts and the rest were all links to porn sites........this was something that put me off straight away as I would not want the likes of those people coming onto my site that I worked hard to setup only to post links to filth.

The problem is that I am going down two routes with it, Health and Entertainment, but you have to have a lighter side now don't you :D

My site does have alot of spiders and bots listed, but only 4 since I set it up have been along to check it out.

I do fully understand that it takes along time to take off but I am just looking for ways that are painless and easy to help things along a bit, (that said, I cannot pay for any form of doing this) being a very nervous person I don't find it at all easy to push myself forward in things, yes even though you are annonymous on the Net, paranoia does not help me any

I'm kind of getting cheesed off by posting on my own, yes people like content, I know this too, but I am running out of ideas, the same thing applies to other things I have there like the Wiki (which I am trying to rack my brains about what to do with it, its just that I am low on ideas, or rather all out of them

I also can't always implement things straight away, I am slow but there are obvious reasons for that.........I just feel stuck and getting nowhere fast.

If anyone knows how I can get it out there, or offer help however small, I would be very grateful

Content is king - If you want your site to be successful you need unique quality content and lots of it, without it any visitor coming to look at your site has no reason to stay or join.

When you have the content, you then need to build back links, these should preferably be from sites within the same niche as yours (but any will do to start with).

The link in your signature is bad and does nothing to help you with link building or SEO, the link should contain your targeted search keywords but not look spammy i.e. Health and Entertainment Forums not Website.

Hi there, I can explain what the problem is but I only found out rather late, the hosts told me that they were moving my Portal to a different server, this is the email I got:

Due to upgrading your portal's structure and its security, it was moved to the other server.
For that reason, you may find your portal inaccessible and come up with message '503 Service Temporarely not Available' for several hours.

I hope that is the reason for you having had problems, if not I will look into it as best I know how and thank you for your interest and apologies for the problems you have had :D

Link in sig now changed, and it works fine now, you should have no problems now skunksmash :D

That looks like it's caused by a corruption in the mysql phpbb_users table

I don't get it as I cick on my sig and the site comes up no problem, do you actually get the site itself? but can't go further?

Thing is if I go to the support forums and ask they take an age to reply sometimes well over the week

Let me know if you can see the site at least

Just tried looking the error up and it seems to be common place at informe - INFORME.COM Support • View topic - phpBB : Critical Error

Just make a post in their forum and they should fix the database for you.

Well I checked my hotmail emails and I had on saying that if there are any errors then to email them which I have done just a minute ago, so I guess I'll just have to wait, but I am sorry for the trouble that people are having all because they had to move it

Still they must know what they are doing

I just wish I had waited for your post skunksmash as I had emailed them before I saw your last post, so my email lacked in the precise department, although I did send them the attachment that you put in your post

Hi stevegittins,

I have disabled guests from posting, people must register, I did this for reasons that I have had alot of trouble on other forums I had and so have done away with that option, whether I allow it in the future I don't know sorry

I've also posted on their support forums about this so hopefully they can help sort out the problem :D

I hope so too, and suffice to say that as soon as I get the ok from them I'll post here to let people know, but I feel bad doing that as I hate to tout for buisnesss on a different forum

Well, I just wanted to let those that were trying to help me yesterday know that the site is now functional again, some parts still don't work but the main one does, I don't want to go on about it anymore for fear of becoming annoying so I shall say no more about.

But would like to say a big thanks to eveyone here for allowing me to say the things I have (alot of other sites would not have been so nice about it) but don't misunderstand me, I don't make a habit of doing this around the Net
