Can anyone help? I am running vista home premium 32 bit and my administrative tools have dissapeared. Is there anywhere I can download them from? Vista was pre installed on my machine from dell,so i dont think i can get them from the vista disk that came with the computer. Any Ideas?
To replace the tools in the Start Menu, right click on the start orb and select Properties. On the Start Menu tab, click Customize... Depending on which style you have, i.e. Start menu or Classic Start menu, enable the tools as shown below:
Start menu. Note that you can choose to have this displayed on the All Programs menu or both there and the Start menu. Classic Start menu

I have an administrative tools in my start menu, but it says that the folder is empty. I also have the icon in control panels, but when i click on it to run it, I get an error message that says corrupt or unreadable. Thanks again for help
Thanks flor the help. Scannow quits after 50 percent is done. Will system restore wipe out any files on my computer created after the restore point or does it just affect vista
The system restore features brings the system registry back in time to a specific according to when the restore point was created. Anything installed on the system after the point was created will be completely removed from the registry itself.
As far as program folders you would have to manually delete those once the system was brought back to an earlier point. Each time a restore point is created a snapshot of the present registry is archived. The snapshot then replaces the current registry.

Some type of malware can't be ruled out while this could be from some files being corrupted by any recent install or are simply now missing and need to be replaced.
Using the classic Windows theme at the present the Administrative Tools are checked off in the properties and still are not seen on the Start menu while readily available in the Control Panel. I'll be trying out the download from the well prepared sticky there.
If the files themselves are there, then it is more than likely start menu corruption occuring here - but again, as you mentioned, Malware cannot be ruled out.

I found a couple of items missing in the folder here where unpacking the zip file and comparing them side by side with two explorer windows open. I just reopened the Adminstrative Tools now to the Local Group Policy Editor and Local Security Policy suddenly appear there.
The Start menu still lacks the Administrative Tools on that even after unchecking and rechecking that item in the properties>Start menu>customize area. I suspect that what Rc Cola is seeing is somehow those were removed completely where the fresh set once unpacked into the correct folder will see those return.
That may have been a bug of some type or some type of accidention deletion. But running a good sweep of the system with a few tools would be advised in case of ?
