I have a laptop I am trying to configue with a HP printer with a wireless card in it. I get everything working fine but when I reboot the laptop I always have to do a manual connection to the adhoc network "hpsetup". The problem I have this computer is going to be used by a disabled person who can not go thru the different screens to get to network connect.. any suggestions??
ad-hoc mode can be real iffy with HP printers. disconnection frequently and connection very difficult.
I was on the phone with HP trying to resolve the same issue you are having. After about an hour and a half of being on the phone, the HP tech just came to the say that the ad-hoc mode connections where just very unreliable and were only meant to be temporary connections anyway.
The customer ended up having a wireless router that he wasn't using so I set the printer up throught the router in infrastructure mode. Connections were reliable and stable after that. No more issuees staying connected.
The setup using the full install CD should set it up permanently - but you may have to go through the setup multiple times - I had a bear of a time getting my folks' to work as well, and another user in here had to go through the installation several times before it worked correctly.
Using he HP software and driver it makes it a much more permanent solution by creating a new local port that redirects to wireless seemingly ad-hoc - but in reality it is pretty much a dedicate connection....so if the laptop turns off the wireless on reboot you'll have to figure out how to enable it all the time as default.

Thanks for the info - I agree the adhoc is really only a cludge. I just wish the vendors would fully design and checkout what they sell - but as I found after working for over 54 years in the DP business that doesn't happen anymore.. I will just go to the USB connect.
