Access Problem

Hi there,

Grateful if anyone can provide assistance. I have Vista Home Premium installed, recently I have been unable to open Microsoft Access as I have been receiving two error messages. The first states that "the application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect". I had hope to resolve this problem by downloading a fix from this site, which unfortunately has done worked.

The other error message I receive is "this file does not have a programme associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel. Unfortunately, I can not locate this. Can anyone help please?

Kind regards, Gary

Hello Gary and welcome to the forums

Sorry for the delay.

How are you trying to open Access? Are you clicking on a shortcut, or are you trying to open a file directly?

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the response and appologies for the delay in responding but I have been away on business. I have tried opening it both by shortcut and also direct from the main programmes button, neither have worked.

If I download the file I need onto a Stick I can then open it on another computer but this is obviously not the answer.

Kind regards,

Hi Gary,

No problem, I understand people have lives outside the forum! If we just post when we can, we'll get there eventually :)

Let's try and tackle the side by side configuration error first.

A good friend of mine has written a great post on the steps you should take to try and fix this problem, so it would be best if I just link you to that, rather than trying to rewrite them out:

Let me know how it goes!

Tom
