Hi Xonk,

Vista handles sytem folders differently from previous windows versions.
The local settings folders has been replaced with the contents of the appdata folder.

In order that older programs that expect to see the settings in a certain location special shortcuts are included to act as pointers

The folders you are trying to access are actually these symbolic links which are not editable

Hi

Your response appreciated. H/ever not being very experienced I am having difficulties with actually finding a possible solution to finding a way around my problem. Am I to assume there is no way to resolve the issue of resolving access denial as indicated previously.
Perhaps you are in a position to enlighten me further bearing in mind my inexperience.

Tks

The local settings folder that you see in explorer does not actually exist as a folder. It is in fact a special type of shortcut which is used to fool older applications which expect the Local Settings folder to be present.

I assume that you are trying to access the user settings for an application which would be found under the Local Settings folder tree.

If you could expand on why you are trying to access the local Settings folders It may be possible to point you in the right direction

The items formally found under the Local Settings are now mainly found under the x:\users\username\appdata folder normally in the Roaming folder.

Hi

Your explanation was very helpful indeed. Eventually found file which I was trying to find. All I could remember when saving the file was the path which was
c:\users\name(in this case mine)\ local settings......) Of course when I clicked on local settings I then encountered the message quoted in my original post.
Having a closer look I have noticed that anything mentioned with a hook comes up with the same error.
Now I know thanks to you, how to overcome this in future.

Tks
