Solved Access Denied

Hello everyone.

I think I might have a good one for you.. I am working on an Acer 5610z Notebook for a friend of mine. He was setting the parental controls and managed to control his account which had admin access. the user listing has the account listing as an admin but he only has standard user access. His was the "only" admin account.. While he was doing this he managed to deny access to the boot drive. The drive reads as "Access Denied". The machine boots up and a person can play games etc.. but network access is restricted.

Does anyone have any suggestions

Has he tried booting into safe mode to access the hidden Admin account and reverse the changes ? ?

Google takeOwnership.reg and download it. Then go to C:\Windows right click system32 and click take ownership. If this doesnt work you should system restore or retry the following in safe mode.

Ok I got the UAC working again but the C: drive is still named access denied. I can defrag it but not much else.. When I go into the properties of the HD windows tells me that 0 bytes capacity, 0 bytes used and 0 bytes available. It started updating it self too once i got it logged into my network.

Hi Jeep Fan,

Try this...Download and install SubInACL from Microsoft.com
Create a new text file named fix_registry_permissions.cmd and add the following text to it and save it.

cd /d "%programfiles%\Windows Resource Kits\Tools"
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
subinacl /subdirectories %windir%\*.* /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f

Run the file by double-clicking on it.

Let me know.
