aaCenter.exe and AsLoader.exe

As everybody knows who uses ATI graphics cards and installs the ACPI and Overclocking apps, you get the aaCenter.exe and AsLoader.exe drivers loading at start-up and AIS requesting elevated permissions.

I would like general or specific comments on my solution (Pros and Cons).

Since these two services which have to do with machine management and not individual user settings (debatable), I decided to have these two drivers load under SYSTEM account.

Advantage: No more requests at start-up, faster boot, no more Window loader failed to run errors.

Disadvantage: No individual user settings (not a problem for me).

I would like to welcome any comments as to why this is or isn't a good solution. Especially if it involves " Your machine is gonna blow-up Dude!" :^)

As of yet I have not encountered any problems in OS operation.

Thanks in advance.

Hi leaff, I'm suffering the same problem as you were. I was just wondering how you were able to get aaCenter.exe and AsLoader.exe to load under the system account?

You can find services under administrative tools. There you will notice services have a log on as attribute that you can change to Local system. Load services using "run as administrator"

Don't you mean ASUS ATi cards? ;)

To be frank, I think the ASUS software sucks, at least under Vista64. So much so I'd say you're better off not installing it altogether. I noticed that many of the things simply didn't work (at least on my P5Q Deluxe), and I do all my overclocking in the BIOS anyway.

You also don't need the aaCenter.exe or asLoader to run SmartDoctor. I believe either aaCenter or asLoader were responsible for hard crashing my machine during games, as after I wiped them from my drive I haven't crashed since.

SmartDoctor sucks too. Somehow I managed to update to 5.22. After I did so, it would no longer run at startup without popping a dialog and I had to change it to load as a task. I noticed also that ASUS took down 5.22, and reverted back to 5.20 after I had installed it.

Of course, trying to uninstall or update SmartDoctor or the useless GamerOSD renders my HD4850 incapable of displaying any 3D unless I wipe everything with driver cleaner. What a pain in the arse. So 5.22 stays, it kinda works and I don't feel like tinkering with it anymore.

The only reason I have SmartDoctor installed in the first place is the fan control, and as soon as my Zalman cooler arrives for the card, SmartDoctor is getting tossed too.

Too bad really, I suppose they work better under XP or 32 bit Vista. Asus needs to get with the times and stop delivering pre alpha quality utilities.

This thread is rather old. It turns out that these programs, Asloader.exe and aaCenter.exe do not show up as services. In fact, they are run by the Vista Task Scheduler. (All Programs>accessories>System Tools>Task Scheduler). If you are signed on as Administrator and you think that you can do without these programs then you can Disable their scheduler launch.

There is more detail about this and why you might/might_not want to disable them at ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum- ASloader.exe and AScenter.exe behaviour under Vista The basic story is that they are only necessary for users with special gaming and tweaking related needs. Others will want to disable them and have a sensible startup without the need to provide Admin passwords.
