On my laptop I turned off the Windows Aero theme. After restarting I noticed the pc gained speed massively all of a sudden. After checking my memory usage I saw it was reduced by 10 percent at idle. It was idling at 35% before and now it sits between 22 and 26 percent.
I also saw a 38 percent increase in battery life on high performance. Is this because of turning the useless Aero effects off...saving cpu and mem usage? Feedback would be great if this works with anyone else.
I have tried this on Vista Home Premium 64-bit and Business 32-bit and got exactly the same response.

Aero can use a bit of resources. Usually it's the transparency feature in Aero that uses the most resources. You may be able to just disable transparency and leave the other Aero features running to still gain that much performance.

The more fancy stuff you've got running - the more resources that it takes up.
Try going to Start and typing in "sysdm.cpl" (without the quotes) and pressing Enter.
Click on the Advanced tab, then on the Performance Settings button.
Set it to "Adjust for best appearance" and play with it for a bit. Then set it to "Adjust for best performance" and see the increase in performance that you get.
Video on most laptops uses memory from the RAM of the system. With the new WDDM drivers, this is allocated dynamically - so using graphics intensive work will result in a higher portion of your RAM being used to render those graphics. And that means a decrease in performance (due to your RAM).
Thanks for the input on the suggestion, but I do like some of the same transitions and things as I had with xp. I have it set for windows to choose what is best for my system with a few minor tweaks(turning transparent glass off). I agree with the RAM usage based off of the graphics card...thanks for the input on that.
i dont really think that with 4 GB of RAM i have nothing to worry about just yet. I mean I can always upgrade to 8Gb in this laptop...but i mean a 4GB RAM chip is like 400 dollars for one...not worth it yet.

Aye:D Your laptop is like mine ^^ But i do like the aero affects, i've just turned off the Transparancy :D Also, try doing regular defrags + clean ur system(temp files etc.) That also helps alot ^^
