I received a security update for MS Works 8. It installed, then asked to be installed again. It now shows up on my list of installed updates a total of 8 times. The other day I got MS help to install it once and for all. That succeeded, but after trying to reboot, my computer would not start. After half a day of fooling around, I managed to do a system restore and my computer started up again. Then there were two more updates for Works 8 waiting for me and, once again, they install but keep asking to be installed again. Now the thing is, I don't believe I even have works 8 on my computer. I do have a folder in my program files called Microsoft Works but I can't figure out what version of works it is. I suspect it's incomplete anyway. The Works folder only contains one folder labeled 1033 and another folder labeled "images". The 1033 folder contains two folders named "Tasks" and "Wizard", respectively. These are full of little files. And that's it. I thought maybe if I could remove this Works folder altogether, I'd stop getting these Works 8 security updates. On the other hand, I'm afraid to remove this works folder for fear it's needed somewhere other than for just the "Works" suite.
I don't want to go back to the MS Security people, since my computer would not start after the last time they helped me.
Perhaps someone on this forum can help me out. (I'm a senior type and not very deep into computers.)
Thanks. Don.
