There is a lot of love and a lot more hate for Windows Vista. I love it. My wife hated it at first but came around. My kids loved it as well. I think Microsoft did release it a little buggier then it should have been but after five years of waiting for a new OS they needed to do something. Now I have wasted at least 3 weekends trying to get XP x64 running right and ended up with mini dump city. Everytime! I finally put it down and left x64 to return to a stable 32bit system.
Now for the praise.
Vista x64 is awesome. Everything works. Everything.
And yes I do work as a tech.
I have found that when installing Vista from the ground up, instalation order of apps is a factor. But that varies from rig to rig.
In the end I now have 2 of my 10 rigs running Vista x64 and I do see a noticeable increase in performance, and resourse usage.
I dont mean that as a bad thing. I expected higher resourse demands from x64 and was surprised to see everything on par or better then 32 bit. Out of 2 gigs of DDR2 800 I can easily get 75% of it free. Ready boost works just as well in x64 as 32 bit. And as an added bonus all my games work fine. Not just the new ones either. The old ones work to.
So what I am saying is thank you Microsoft for a system that does work, and with a very small amount of time will get even better.
So to all those who are having issues I am willing to bet that all you need is a proper first install to make your lives what you were use to when you ran 32bit sytems.
Experiment. You will find the right install order that allows you to think about more important things then what will break next. My x64 Vista installs have been running for 3 months without a hic up. And I belive that from now on I will run x64 only systems.
Thank you again Microsoft.
