A General Driver Question

Hello All

I'm new to this site and it looks like there are a lot of tech savy people here! Sounds good to me because I have a SATA Controller Driver question.

I have performed clean installs with XP before and i'm used to the "Press F6" issue and loading controller drivers from a floppy. I am getting ready to do my first build with Vista, using Vista Home Premium 64 bit on a ASUS P5N7A-VM motherboard. After reading the manual I have found that in this BIOS I have the option to "Configure SATA as..." with the options of "IDE", "RAID", and "ACHI". Now... I have no interest in either RAID or ACHI as this will be a relatively simple computer doing relatively simpler tasks. Now... on to my question.

I'm sure this has been answred before but to no luck have I found it. If I choose to configure my SATA drive as IDE will I need any SATA controller drivers at all during Vista installation? If so, it is true that I can have them on a USB drive and load them that way? Lastly, are there places where I would have to get a general driver? I have visited ASUS' website and there are no SATA controller drives under their download section.

Thanks in advance everyone!!

You do not need any special drivers to install Vista.

SATA drives became an industry standard for computer makers back before Vista came out negating the need to get additional drivers to load Vista.

Good luck with your build :)
