6800GT problems

i just upgraded my system, but kept my graphics card (q9300, 4gb ram, X48 mobo). and now games run a 1-2 fps. but sometimes if i roll back to the original wddm driver, games will work. HL2 works all the time, but Live for Speed, Crysis, FEAR, and BF2 all play up. But then sometimes they just work. Anyone else had problems like this?

This also effects video playback (avi, mpeg....)

you need a new GFX card, that old thing is bottlenecking the Q9300.. badly.

get a Cheap 8800GT now on sale for $119.00 on Newegg.com

the latest drivers were the first i tried, and i've tried some other versions. still the same problem. I'll check for overheating, but i doubt it's that

i know the 6800GT is old, but I don't have the $$ for a better one at the moment :(

Found this thread while I've been googling to try and find a solution to the exact same problem. I upgraded to an Abit ip35 pro and C2D 3.16Ghz.

I have problems with stuttering xvid videos in 32 bit media player and unplayable frame rates in any games I've tried.

64 bit media player works just great. It's almost as if the hardware acceleration isn't working when running 32bit programs.

i just tried WMP64 and my videos work fine, probably explains why HL2 works, as it's got a 64bit mode.

I'll have to try Crysis in 64bit mode and see if it works.

there is still a problem tho. as I can use both 32 and 64bit modes. but I do have a GTX260 tho so that might be a factor..

I tested Crysis 64 bit, and it worked like a dream. seems a really weird problem that only 64 apps get hardware acceleration. Now to find a fix.

A quick thought as I've been googling here at work tonight and I seem to have come across some people claiming to have issues with getting the fan to 'kick in' and cool when the card was under load.

That might go some way to explaining things as my card is always ok for the first 3-4 minutes before I'd get the problems I mentioned above, maybe there is some program/tool you can use to keep the fan running?

Just a thought anyways, let me know if you have any luck, I have a feeling I'm going to end up biting the bullet and buying a 4850 anyways....

My Computer

Sorry when I said the first couple of minutes I mean from the pc being turned on and logging into Vista, not from each program starting, once the PC is turned on, for about 3-4 minutes I can run whatever I like, then I get problems.....
