64 bit

My daughter purchased a Dell PC that has Vista 64 bit loaded. We didn't realize it was the 64 bit version until recently. Her problem is with IE. She has broadband access, but as soon as she drills down more than two levels, her browser slows right down. For some reason, it worked well and fast for about a month, but she recently rebooted her PC and it's s-l-o-w again. Has any else experienced this problem? Is there any way or reason to go to the 32 bit version of Vista? Thanks!

Do you have an anti virus program? run it and see if you find any virus's
I had the same problem and i ran AVG free edition and found several virus's i also installed a program called CCleaner and it found an INSANE amount of registry problems, after wards my internet and overall computer ran MUCH faster.

I'm not an expert or anything but you could try these :)

Go get yourself Firefox and I'm sure you'll be much much happier!!

Hello Malta,

You might see if using CCleaner as Brian and hclark suggested above may help. You may also have a IE add-on causing this as well, so resetting IE may help.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Are you using an Internet Security application? It may be causing the slowdown (I've seen McAfee do this on systems at work).

Have you tried defraging the pc since it was bought? Sometimes when you run the pc for the first time the disk is massively fragmented and may cause issues. Are you using the 64-bit version of the IE...if you are i think Flash player doesnt work yet so you are stuck without that if you are attempting to view pages in Flash. Try using the 32-bit version of the program and see if this helps.

Also dont forget that even a power cycle of your modem/router and pc can fix alot of internet issues if it seems slow or not responsive online.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to all of you. We'll try these one by one. I had heard that FireFox is probably the safest way to go. Let's hope that something works. I have the 32 bit version of Vista (Home Premium) - when I first had my laptop, I also experienced a slowness with IE but after a few rounds of patches, it worked well. However, I am also thinking about going to FireFox. To those of you that use it, are you happy with it? Once again, thanks! :D
