64 bit Vista keeps growing and spreading out - what is going on?

Hi,

I received an HP laptop with Vista 64 on it about a week ago. It had the basic stuff that comes with HPs. I even deleted some software, added a few apps and 1 GB worth of pictures. There are 64 GB of disk space being used when I look at the Disk in "my Computer". What is going on? This thing keeps growing and spreading and I am not putting anything on the disk. Somewhere I recall seeing this issue as something that can be tweaked or fixed.

The "HP Recovery" (D:) is 12.8 GB. , by the way.

Any ideas ?

Yeah - as you install apps, you use more and more of the disk in terms of System Restore. By default, it is set to use 12% of your drive. At a 200 GB HD, that's 32 GB *alone* for System Restore.

Vista shadow copy/restore uses default of 15% of hard drive alone- on a 200gb drive thats 30gb of space, but this can be adjusted.
