4 hortizontal screens

Have a problem I can't find a solution to. I have 4 hortizontal screens. I have Vista Home premium on a hp pavillion laptop dv9540. It was working fine. Windows media started popping up, then computer shut down restarted with 4 screens. I can not start normally, can start in safe mode or safe mode with networking. If I start normally it goes to start up repair and the to recovery options. Since everything is compressed I can't read the options.

Tried HP chat - disappointing. Removed battery, checked memory seating, ran virus check, hooking up external monitor and system restore. All to no avail.

Can any one help? System recovery is last resort, have needed files & no back up

Hello Barb11,
When booting up, press F8, on the options screen choose "Last Known Good Configuration" and see if that will help.
Also you can try un-installing your video drivers and re-installing them, here is a link for drivers.
Its a UK site but the drivers will be the same, well, probably better because of that. ;)

HP United Kingdom - Computers, Laptops, Servers, Printers and more

It sounds like a driver issue, so new drivers could be the answer.
I hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

So this happens from the time you turn the computer on? Does the HP Logo appear in these miniscreens, or does this only happen once you've booted into Windows.

It's continuous, It never makes to the hp logo, just goes to startup repair & the recovery options, but since there are four compressed screens its very difficult to read anything. I have to start in safe mode to try anything & even in safe mode there are four screens

WOW.. That is very strange.. WTF...

If you would try doing a power-cycle on the computer, then post the results back. The power-cycle removes any remaining charge in the computer. This is done by taking out the battery, unplugging the AC Adaptor, and pressing and holding down the power button for 90 seconds. Then replace the ower souces and attempt to power the computer back on, if the issue resumes post back. I've honestly NEVER seen anything like this before.

Well, I did what you said. It didn't work. Couldn't get battery back in. Got frustrated & shut down for several hours. Turned back on & I had one screen.

Tried to get info onto disk, rom drive worked but couldn't read any cd, dvd even though I used them before. The program that usually pops up didn't. Firefox won't work.

It gets better, I ran avast & avg but it still wasn't working right, I restored my computer to the earliest time I could find. Didn't help, I don't think it restored, it didn't come back & tell I could undo changes. Did memtest - ok.

Did search to see if I could figure out if something downloaded, nothing seemed out of the ordinary, last used was 1/14, didn't use 1/15, four screens appeared on 1/16.

Anyway, at the bottom of the file list was a ie symbol & then a folder. No dates or any other info. I can't open, scan, or delete. All it says is S-1-5-21-282488-5253-191800515-1762737792-1000

I hooked up to Microsoft safety scanner it found out I had a Trojan Selace K in the jar cache. It removed it. I did not remove the ie folder.

Started noodling around in system info & found microsoft 6 to 4 Adapter #6 wasn't working properly, my wireless assistant is gone.

Got tired shut down computer, booted back up to blue screen, nldsk.sys address 8BA11A70 to physical memory dump to repair startup files, can't repair display drivers, (all drivers were up to date yesterday) & now NVIDIA 8600M GS driver has been rolled back to a year ago.

Went to shut down to go into safe mode again & hit switch users instead & am now back to 4 screens.

*scratches head* ???????

I don't think this is a virus or a driver problem. The issue ocurs on POST? Do you get the same problem on external monitor?

How about in BIOS?

Ok, Nevermind.. Without a doubt your LCD is failing. You're going to need to have it [the LCD Screen] replaced. This is not a software problem by any stretch of the imagination!!

I've service Notebook computers that had similar issues.

Would a failing LCD also cause something with nlsdks.sys and a physical memory dumP? A Blue screen? Unable to write to CD's? Cause last known Good config to fail? Cause restore not to work?

If you have had a blue screen, go to C > Windows > minidump, and zip up dump files, upload them with your next post. (you may need to copy them to your desktop first).
They may shed some light, as to what is causing this problem.

I think I know why I'm getting a blue screen, but I'm not sure. Under the problem reports and solutions (ha, ha)
A problem with your video hardware caused Windows to Stop working
BC Code 117
BCP1 91 F30008
BCP2 8BE0FA70
BCP3 00000000
BCP4 00000000

In the sysdata.xml file the following files have a *
Microsoft 6 to 4 adapter
Microsoft Isatap adapter

6 to 4 adapter is not working properly because windows can't load the drivers (code31) Tried updating & it says I have best drivers for this device.

How is this tied to the video? I thought this was a networking ie: modem connector?

Also, Under performance info & tools it says that new hardware detected. I have installed any new hardware, except for trying to conncet an external monitor when I was online with HP Chat & it failed. I tried to refresh & it stopped running.

It was the next restart after trying to hook up monitor that I got the blue screen & memory dump.

found the problem it seems HP DV9500 series is known for crashing & burning just like mine did. My computer is now junk. There is a major problem with the Nvidia
8400 & 8600 chips. The following websites explain:

All nvidia g84 and g86s are bad - The Inquirer

hp dv9500 screen problem - HP Support Forum

hp dv9500 screen problem - HP Support Forum

Also, just to let you know on one of the websites was a phone number for HP.
I called, my computer is out of warranty, of course. These chips seem to fail after about 18 months. Anyway, first guy I talked to hung up on me. I called back and at first was offered an extended warranty and then I could send it to them to be repaired the only problem they were going to put another 8600 chip in. Then I was told I couldn't have the warranty I had to pay $398.00 & they would still put in the 8600 chip, but they would give me a three month warranty for the repairs.
