32 bit to 64 bit

Hey, i would like to switch from 32 bit vista ultimate to 64 bit because i want to upgrade to 4GB of RAM and be able to use all of it to it's fullest.

Right now i have 2 paritions on my single HDD. 1 is my back-up windows xp partition, it is also the larger of the 2 so i put most of my data and programs on there. My second partition is my Vista Ultimate 32 bit version on which i use some programs from my windows xp partition that i wouldnt like to lose.

Is there any way i can change from my 32 bit version of windows vista to a 64 bit version without losing all of my data... including the data on my windows xp partition if possible.

Thanks.

Will you have to pay for the upgrade from 32 to 64?

Best and Warm Regards

Hello Vanzag and welcome to Vista forums!

Probably the 'safest' way would be to get an additional HDD and put 64-bit Ultimate on that.
Just be sure you have access to all the relevant drivers before you begin.

If i get a second HDD for my 64 bit version, wil i be able to use/play the programs that i installed on my xp/32 bit version with the power of 4GB?

Just to point out that you may not be able to use all 4GB. I'm having this problem at the moment. If your chipset/motherboard is limited to 4GB RAM, then you'll only be able to use around 3 - 3.5GB (even on x64).
