2 screen set up - need guidance

hi.
i want to connect my pc to my tv using hdmi and also keep my desktop monitor using vga but be able to view both screens identically.
my mobo is a gigabyte ga-73pvm-s2h and im using the onboard nvidia geforce7100/nforce 630i graphics.
at the moment the only way i can connect tv and monitor is by using the nvidia control panel but i cant set diferent resolutions for each screen and run them both identically so whichever screen i set as the main is fine but when i look at the second screen res is wrong..
is there a way to have both screens running simutaneously with different resolutions(my monitor is 15" and tv 32")or a setting in windows to allow this rather than having to change the main screen all the time?
thanks in advance.

so your using N View to clone your displays and its not working? is that your problem? Assuming your GPU is up to cloning multiple displays it could be a driver issue , i know that the newest NVidia drivers solve this issue for many (182.08) also some have problems using HDMI and solve them by using a composite video lead (at least i think thats what its called :P )

If your not using N View to clone your displays then thats why you cant set it correctly ;)

thanx archie, sorry for the delay in replying.
yes im using nview to clone and resize but im losing some of the desktop on the tv - its fine on the monitor. when i resize the desktop it changes the resolution and then the desktop is too small.
i can run the screens individually(set the resolutions individually) but then have to go into software to change the main screen every time i want to swap between the 2.
ideally id like to run the 2 screens cloned but the resolutions(i think its that) wont allow.
is there a hotkey to quickly change between mainscreens?
i tried a program called smSwitch which changes resolutions with hotkeys but ive not had much joy with it.
i really want a hotkey to change screens if i cant run in clone.

i checked that link archie and it seems i have a different version of nview.
heres a screenshot of my nview, different to the one in the link i think:

nview capture.JPG

the quality of that image is about as good as im getting on the tv via hdmi at the moment and that is all i can see off the desktop(edges missing).

This is one of the features in the link that i cannot se in my settings: Prevent Windows from Opening Off-Screen: Ticking this option prevents any windows from opening off the visible portion of the screen, and thereby being inaccessible or hard to access.
i think this is the feature i need but cant seem to find it.

this is a better screenshot with lower res and shows more accurately the amount of desktop im losing on the edges. the tv screen quality is still bad tho. it looks fine on the monitor.

cheers again archie. ive been told i need to activate the nvidia desktop manager for more options. i tried installing it but installation failed.
i was running the tv & monitor together off a vga y-adapter and everything was perfect. now i have 1 screen on vga and the tv on hdmi and nothings going right.
i changed to hdmi cos i thought it was better quality and also i can hide the cable behind my wall lol. (the vga plug was too wide.

can anyone help with this one please, no idea whats going on.
as well as the above ive also tried installing nvidia desktop manager(not listed in control panel but nvidia control panel is) but the installation failed. im not sure if its already installed. cant find any info about it on my system.
ive tried just about everything i can think of now.
running through an a/v receiver didnt make a difference.
i have all the latest nvidia drivers but still not all of the settings in nview.
ive messed with all the settings i have but im still missing desktop edges.
using 600x800 with 60hz refresh rate in clone mode, that seems to be the best i can get it at the moment.
im confused.
anyone any ideas?
please?

Ive been reading up on this mate just to find out for myself and all the NVidia blurb has no mention of being able to set differant resolutions from the same card , only if you have an sli config (two cards) or just two seperate GPU's

are you sure it can be done?

im not sure mate but even if i connect just the tv without the monitor through hdmi its still losing part of the desktop. ive given up for now and gone back to vga with a y-connector. both screens perfect at 1024x768p.
thanks for taking the time to look into it anyway mate, appreciate it.

and what frequency are you outputting to your HDTV from your GPU?

And what is the native frequency of your TV? Im only asking because my monitor for example is 85hz at 1280x1024 if i want to game at 1600x1200 i need to change the refresh rate to 60hz (thats the native refresh rate for my monitor at thar res) if i dont change it when in fullscreen the game doesnt fit the screen properly.

could it simply be that you need to set your output frequency to one that matches your TV? (im clutching at staws here now ive never used a TV as a monitor before :p )

the native res on the tv for vga is 60hz but even at that rate it didnt fit onscreen. i messed with all of the rates but none of them made a difference, hdmi was still overscanning.
im refreshing at 70hz (changed again)now with the vga as it fits both tv and monitor well and i dont have to change res all the time.. there doesnt seem to be much difference on the tv at 60hz but the monitor is not so good hence setting at 70.
