Solved .NET framework 4 Client profile

Is it possible to install the above on a computer running Vista Home Prem. 32bit?
I have tried and failed 4 or 5 times (ox800f0900)
I need it to update the maps for my Garmin Sat-Nav. :mad:

Welcome to Vista Forums!

I'm not certain what you are trying to download, but here is what you need to install .NET Framework 4 on your system (and it is possible and it does apply as long as you meet the conditions): Download details: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Standalone Installer).

If you still have the problem, try the following solution proposed by MVP Mow Green in another forum (but first create a System Restore point and backup the Registry just to be on the safe side):

0x800f0900 CBS_E_XML_PARSER_FAILURE
unexpected internal XML parser error.

See if running this tool resolves the error:

Download and *save* it. After the download completes close all open
programs and browsers.

*Enable* the native Vista firewall as the system must be connected to
the net when the tool runs so that it can downloaded needed updating

Now run au_check_v78a_codeplex.exe by *right* clicking it and choosing
'Run as administrator'. Allow it time to complete it's operation.
Reboot afterwards.

See if the system can (install the) update now.

Thanks I'll try all you suggest but I'm confused. When I look at the page for the standalone installer it states the the Supported architecture in System Requirements is all x64 and above. But you suggest I should still get this on to my x32 system... :confused:

I had .net 3.5 running. The thing I'm trying to get is the updated maps for my Garmin SatNav. The installer worked before but now has to have .net4 so it tries to install it and fails every time. Garmin say I should speak to MS :shock:

Check the article again. The file specifies x86 (which means 32-bit). The architecture also says it supports x86. I assure you this is the file you need and it will work on a 32-bit system. But you do need to have Vista SP1 at least installed - if not, it will not work - so make sure that's true before you try or you will get errors. If it still won't work, try the procedure listed above to see if that resolves the problem as that is specifically for that type of error code.

.net Framework error are almost ALWAYS fixed with a re-install. Hopefully you won't be the exception! Download and run this tool: .NET Framework Cleanup Tool User's Guide - Aaron Stebner's WebLog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs

Make sure that you ONLY cleanup .net Framework 4. Then download and install this package: Download details: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Standalone Installer)

If this doesn't work, try the advice by Lorien.

Hello!

That is the usual fix, but your error points to a corruption. This is fine.

This applied the same to Vista and 7. Do not worry that it says Vista: Please run steps 1, 2A, 3 (about 15 minutes), 4, 5 from this tutorial System Files - SFC Command Don't worry about the logs for the time being. I have a very good reason for not asking for them!

Download and run this tool: Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2 When it has finished installing the update, it is done!

When the above has completed, download and run FireGenUL: Altair Technologies Ltd. A console application will show on the screen for a few seconds.

Right, this has produces a log of logs for me. Please now upload them. To do this, create a new folder on your Desktop called LOGS. Navigate to C:\Windows\Logs and copy the entire CBS folder into your new LOGS folder. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32 and copy FireGenULReport.htm into your LOGS folder.

Close the LOGS folder, and right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder. Upload that new zip file. Either upload it here, ideally, or if it is too big to Speedy Share or any other media sharing website. It should be small enough to upload here without any issues, and that would be preferable, so please may I ask you to try to upload it here first?

Thanks Richard. Getting on with that.
However when I got to the bit about "Download and run this tool: Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2" I notice that I only have Vista SP1 installed.
Does that matter? What to do next...

Weird! I tried to install Vista SP2 so that I could download the System Readiness Tool as you directed. Guess what? that failed too with the same error code (0x800F0900)...

Your error code means that you have a corruption of the manifests or similar. The fact that it only happened for .net Framework was odd and pushed me off the scent. To fix this corruption, I need that log. As far as I know, that tool should run without SP2. I am no longer fussed you trying more updates. Please try that tool, and post the log. Then I can post you a fix, and everything should work again

If the tool doesn't run, then I am interested in the error. We will get you back on your feet very soon if you stick with me!

I have just looked through your logs. You have quite a history! Many, many errors, all of which have been fixed, and then re-appeared under a different name later on. My first thought here would be a dying hard disk drive. How old is your computer? Has Microsoft or anyone ever fixed your Windows Updates before? Do all of your programs work OK? I may have to ask you to follow these instructions if you are able: HD Diagnostic

Computer is about 3 years old Richard. Nobody has ever fixed Windows updates. So far all my programs work OK.
