New GTX200b series...??

So, does anyone have any links or info on the New Nvidia 55nm tech.

I know that they are planning to release the GTX200 series on a new 55nm Fab. and that they will probably release a GTX260b and 280b. or some people are saying a 300 and 320. or something like that.

So does anyone have some links, or good info, other than some 1 liners saying that NV is planning to make them. Like any release dates. or what not. I've heard that they are going to silently release them RIGHT after ATI releases there new 4870x2 and they are going to drop some "Good" new 55nm cards that will be very competitive yet single card solution.

the 4870x2 is supposed to be out August 12-13th give or take. So hopefully we see some NV Green soon after that. or the next day would sure rain on there parade.

So ya, let me know what you all think, and share your info and news with everyone.

lol...... yep its a high VID but not the end of the world with decent cooling it will still reach respectable speeds

The competition with AMD made Nvidia lower prices considerably, and that's not a good sign for this quarter's revenues

After successfully launching the GT200 65nm, branded as GTX 280 / 260, Nvidia is moving on to the next target, which would be the launch of the 55nm version of the GT200 chip. The Santa Clara company should rush the new chip to the market to provide a powerful competitor to AMD's Radeon HD 4870 X2.

The R700 created quite a fuss about a week ago, when AMD allowed a short preview of the card. The dual card presented itself as being faster than GTX 280, but ATI still has a lot to work to do to win the war, especially with Nvidia preparing the GT200 55nm, which should come with shaders and clock faster than its 65nm counterparts. We should expect a tight competition during the back-to-school season.

In the meantime, it’s worth noting that Nvidia is going through a rough third quarter, which comes in the aftermath of the second one, when it also registered some losses. The competition with AMD-ATI drove the Santa Clara based company to slashing the prices for its cards. Also, some of the Nvidia chips proved to be faulty, which meant another loss in the company's revenues and a drop in the price of its stocks.

After a few years of running in second and not getting too close to the lead, ATI has brought to light the RV770 chip, smaller and better priced, the best it came up with so far. For the time being, Nvidia's GT200 is faster, but it does not go too far ahead of the RV770XT cards. Except with the price, of course.

Nvidia had to drop the selling prices for its GT200 based graphics cards, G92-based products and 9600 and 9500. The result was a crippled profit during this quarter, since the average selling prices went down. Both revenue and profit will be small for Nvidia, for the reason that it won't be able to make as much money as it used to. Even more, as competition becomes tighter, the general trend might be a further drop in the prices for graphics cards.

It seems that Nvidia has another weight on its shoulders right now, as it has to convince its shareholders that the situation is still fine while, contrastingly, making less money per chip.

sorry to get you worried about your VID.. ya it's not that great.. but like he said above, it's ok. and you'll still reach some ok speeds.. Question, what are you having problems with now. second round overclocking?? I've learned more than Most know about the 7 series boards in the last week or so.. I know plenty. so if your having problems just ask. I can help you with your GTLREF settigns also if you'd like. they will allow you to get to a stable OC, with less voltage much easier. like for example I am at 3.5 GHz with 1.4675v. I can now reach that same STABLE speed with my GTLREF settings set right, and my volts set to 1.425 and my FSB going from 1.4 back down to 1.3 where it used to not be stable. so the GTLREF settings do a lot. but you must be careful with them as it's very hard to get it right. to high, unstable, to low, unstable. you need to get it right in the middle. I'll link you to a great guide on those if you'd like. read the entire thing. and I was stable at 3.612 GHz by the end of that night. as before I wasn't stable above 3.4 for over a week I was tryin. great guide.

OK, so as I mentioned on the first post. I read a few things about them releasing the 55nm 200b series before the end of august. I then read that they are planning to release it very shortly after ATI releases the 4870x2.

Not sure if this is true. I sure think that would be cool. I'd either be temped to step up to the newer 260. or if prices drop then I might have to grab a second one. and a bigger PSU of course!

I like seeing serious competition. If the prices get cheap enough this fall, though it will mean a new powersupply, I might be tempted to get another 3870X2 and drop it in to my machine for Crossfire X.

No offense against Nvidia's hardware, but in my opinion, Nvidia needs to do some driver work too. I ran in to over the past year, too many problems with Nvidia's chipset drivers, and a few issues, though I don't remember what they were with Nvidia's graphic drivers, that caused BSOD's, which is why I got fed up in the Spring, bailed out of that Nvidia motherboard, I had got the board I have in my sig, and the videocard I have now.

We've learned that the massive GT200 chip is going to get smaller. Nvidia has been working on a 55nm version of the chip for a while, and we wrote about this on several occasions.

Nvidia is currently finalizing the clocks on the chip and it is waiting to see the final performance of R700. Nvidia's chip is likely to be slightly faster than ATI's dual chip offering, but we suspect that the performance will be quite close.

Nvidia is certainly not giving up without a fight, as Nvidia's entire marketing was based on the fact that Nvidia was a performance leader. Nvidia simply cannot let the crown slip out of its hands and that is why Nvidia works so hard to maintain its performance dominance.

ATI has never been so close, but this is good, as Nvidia will get its focus back and it will make the world a better place. :D

I only hope the card is shorter. Because of my hard drive bay I am limited to cards 9.5" or less, or I am forced to get a new case.

Get a new case, don't let that get you down with these new cards. they make games look amazing. you can't pass them up.

and Great news Skunk. I'm thinkin Nvidia has something strong in there sleeves. but hopefully they've ironed out the kinks in the 280.. the 260 has been solid. and if this new one is a good performer ( and it sounds like it will be) Then I'm doing the Step up program with eVGA and grabbin one.

and to WildEagle. I understand you had a few driver issues. but almost everyone has driver issues. thats why so many are released. Because not everyone has the same system. Everyone has something different. People find what works BEST for there system with Nvidia. ATI just releases one. and if that doesn't work for someone, ATI owners revert to a 1 yr old driver. that doesn't happen with NV. with NV for some it may be the 177.19, for others the 177.35 I'm on the 177.41, and can't wait to try the .70. You said you had a few problems, and I beleive it. But this thread is about Video cards. your saying the main reason you jumped out was becuase the problems with your Nvidia Motherboard. and I'm with ya there, they are strugglin. So even tho there Mobo's are strugglin, doesn't mean there GFX cards and drivers are. I see your point. But IMHO the Nvidia GFX cards are solid and doing great. the Mobo's could use some TLC tho.

So. I got some new news about the 55nm Cards. Yup.
Not sure if it's true or not. it's from Wikipedia, they seem to have good info IMO.

Ya so apparantly according to them, the new GTX200 series + are coming around August 28th. They have the card named the GTX 280+ we don't know if thats the name. they could be the 270 and the 290. they could go to the 300's. Not sure. but I'm thinkin they will be the same with +.

So acording to the link. the GTX 280+ will be a charm. it's near the bottom
It's core clock will be 648 vs 602 MHz stock. and the Fillrates will be greatly imporved. along with a good raise in about 400 shaders stock. from 1290 to 1620. at the end of that list the Gflops go from 933 to over 1000. so it's the first official Single card T-Flop. or whatever. Not sure how true any of this is, looks like those stats could be very realistic personally.

Nvidia is working hard to launch GT200 55nm but this will most certainly won't happen in August or September. Our sources imply that this will take place in Q4 2008.

Nvidia simply wants to win the performance crown back from R700. Adding GDDR5 memory and 55nm process will certainly speed things up and they will take the dissipation down.

Thermal dissipation is Nvidia's biggest problem as the chip turns out to be extremely hot and the new 55nm should be a bit better. Once you take care of thermals, you can clock the chip higher which eventually means more performance.

The 55nm process with a new clock and GDDR5 memory should get GT200 55nm a bit faster than R700 and this is exactly what Nvidia needs.

Yep I agree with that. I also think that Greed clouded their judgement and now they are suffering :D

I personally am glad that AMD ATI have striked back and Reclaimed abit of the Market.
The R700 is really awesome and i hope ATI will continue to keep Nvidia's greed and High prices at bay for a lil while to come

i have just learned Nvidia are about to make a mistake ...(again!!)

The graphics card battle is getting more fierce right now. Our source just informed us that NVIDIA will upgrade GTX 260 in mid September, offering one more TPC inside the G200 GPU.

The original GTX 260s have 8 TPCs (Texture Processing Cluster) total, but the new GTX 260s have 9 TPCs. That means the numbers of shader processor have been increased from 192 to 216. In G200 chip, one TPC contains 24 shader processors.

Other than the TPC upgrade, the other specs are kept the same. That means the card still runs at 576/1242/999Mhz (core/shader/memory), Memory interface keeps 448bit, and memory size is 896MB.

We guess that this upgrade will help the card to suppress HD 4870. But HD 4850 X2 is right around the corner…

this may not be too bad if its the same price ...but it wont be.

im losing track ...& the differences in performance will just get blurred with the addition of endless cards.

Thats lame. So how big of a difference will adding 24 SP to the thing make? will it just be a small bumb to it. cuz it's already got 192, and the 280 has 240.

I think it's a good idea, but also a bad idea. Why release that, Just wait and do that to the new 55nm card. so it's not only better than the 4870, but much better. instead of creating once again another card, and another name, and more confusion. They are just wako's over there.
