(Urgent!) All SSL connections failed (help!!)

All my connections deal with ssl failed. Everytime my IE starts a ssl connection, it will failed and tell me "Internet Explorer cannot display this page.....".
This problem has raised just a couple of days ago.
Now all my visits to microsoft sites (including hotmail), gmail, and... many others are blocked by this problem.

Plz help.

Try resetting the TCP settings and Winsock by following this:

Hmm..strange. Unless anyone else comes up with anything then the only thing that will definitely fix it is to do a fix install of the OS using your Windows disk. Theres a tutorial about this in the Tutorials section of this forum. Its quite painless and keeps all your files and programs intact..unlike XP. It just reinstalls Windows without touching your other stuff.
BTW.. I suppose you have tried a System Restore?
OH...have you tried a Spyware and Virus check. If you are infected these sometimes change your settings.

i'm using Kaspersky Internet Security 7. It always reports that there's a hidden file "C:\Windows:AstInfo" cannot be clear unless perform a reboot. That's all, i cannot see that file nor kasper can delete that file, and also no threat is found in memory and boot section...
But i think that's not the ssl problem's cause, since the "AstInfo" already exists before this problem appears.

I have tweaked some settings in services.msc before this problem comes out. It might be sth about the latest update which includes office sp1.

So, have to tried the system restore before you tweaked..hopefully the restore point is still there.
You could also try the sfc /scannow in the Dos command. This will check that all your windows files are OK and if altered in anyway will put them back to default.

OK, the worst thing appeared: no use and almost made all the connections broken. (I have worked on it for at least one hour to get my sys re-gain the access to internet )
I'm now considering perform a reinstallation.

One question: Will the reinstallation replace my updated sys files with original ones? I don't want to download tons of updates after the installation completes.

(BTW, i have noticed you have modified your LCD screen spec in your signature. what happened? . )

Well unfortunately yes you will have to update via Windows update again, but it does not take all that long as they are mostly cumulative. Please follow the tutorial closely. Ive done it about 4 times already without a hitch when I messed around too much, lol. I found that Vista default tcp settings are much better than any of these so called tweaked affairs anyway.
The monitor...well I would rather have a better resolution and smaller screen for the PC and dedicate my HDTV solely for TV and DVDs, Xbox 360 etc.

do you have any idea on what's going on under the hood?

In fact i really didn't touch any net settings in the services.msc, just removed some useless services like feedback, superfetch, readyboost,... they are just useless for me (And trust me, there's nearly no performance impact but saves a lot of memory: 780MB->680MB. )
What about office sp1? Is that also counted in the usually update? I guess i will have to spend a morning's time to accomplish the installment.

( You really have a full digital entertainment environment. :O my lcd is 22" @ 1680x1050 )

To be honest..could be a number of things. Cant really put my finger on one particular problem. It could be that one of the services that you disabled is a dependency on ssl, network or tcp..but I dunno offhand. I always think its better to put to manual instead of disabled. Office sp1..that will only come into updates if you have any office products on your system, otherwise..no.

Yer..I love my gadgets...right gadget freak. Love Home Cinema etc. Just wish I could afford better speakers, but the ones I got at the moment...Tannoy EFX 7.1 are good enough for the time being, but they dont really let my Amp shine the way it should.

Well, i have not put them directly into "disabled" ,just like your advice, they're "manual" instead. I also have carefully recorded the default values before i made the changes. Unfortunately, even if i revert all tweakings to defaults, that problem seems stick to my pc. I couldn't find any piece of info helpful to heal my Vista. so, a reinstall might be badly needed to make it new again.

Your gadgets are... really really awesome. my speakers... are just entry-level 2.1, they produce sawing-like jagging sound. i'm right going to make a update when i find a cost-effective and high quality ones.

Yer mate, to be honest just do a reinstall as per the tutorial link I gave you. Follow the instructions carefully and you wont have any problems..just like a new pc. I know its daunting and youre thinking...all that time, reinstalling etc..but believe me it aint that painful and depending on what you have installed it could take about 3 hrs..well it did with mine, but I have about 250gigs of software installed..thats why it took 3hrs. Just let it get on with it and do something else in the meantime. Once you have it reinstalled, let Windows update do its thing and then you are uptodate and ready to go. One final thing..you may have to install the latest drivers for the soundcard and graphics again..but that aint no biggy is it?

Speakers..yer..get some nice quality speakers and you wont believe the difference mate.

Thanks, my reinstallment is ready to go. maybe few days later, currently i don't have so much spare time to conduct the whole progress. (Hope i don't run into the activation trouble again)

Problem solved!
The erroneously working Kaspersky Internet Security Suit should be responsible for this. just run a reinstall, and everything goes to normal.

I'm having the same problem with C:\Windows:AstInfo ; KIS recognize it as a modification file... but it doesn't mangage to fix ot, erasing it or repairing it...

And no one at Kaspersky forum knows it...

Furthermore, I don't manage to find the file...

How have you solved this problem ?

By the way, I don't seem to have SSL connection problem...

Get rid of Kaspersky by uninstalling it, restarting, get a refund from Kaspersky and get a better AntiVirus like Nod32. Nod32 has a Small footprint, consistently top of the AV charts and it just sits there waiting to catch the bugs without you knowing its there.
You wont have SSL while you have Kaspersky installed and until they decide to get off their fat rears and patch it.

My KIS's lic is approaching to an end, so i downloaded a trial version of Nod32.
I have run a in-depth scan, stressed on finding out what is the windows:AstInfo...
Now, here's the report:

"[4] Object cannot be opened. It may be in use by another application or operating system."

See it? Nod32 is unable to scan it. cuz it's hidden and being used or a critical system file.
AstInfo is not recognized as a virus or sth threating your system's health. You can search for it in Kaspersky's kownledge base, norton's KB, ESET's KB .... It's just NOT a virus.
