Unwanted odd pic's appear in slide show

Hi, i am a complete novice with pc's (please bear with me) and would appreciate any help, not sure if this is the right place to ask?

I have recently had strange pixilated images mixed in with our photos when playing music and selecting slide show, our photos appear along with random images, they are not coming from MY PICTURES folder as i have right clicked when the odd pic appears and they are coming from random folders that i can't find.

I thought the strange graphics were coming from itunes or Tom Tom so i have uninstalled them both...but the images keep coming.

How do i stop media center looking and producing these annoying images, any idea's anyone?

I am running 32bit Vista

I already have Nortons antivirus and scanned OK, what i have found out is the offending folder is in the WMC Picture Library under Program Files....looking into this folder revealed the same unwanted images!

Can this folder be taken out of WMC ? or how can i make the slide show not look at this folder?

Looking a little closer, the images are from many folders within the Program File folder, they are icons from eg:- Google, Ulead Photo (tons in there) , Microsoft Works and many programs containg graphic images...

Well, if you really want to stop iWindows Media Center you can do it this way. Actually there are more than one way to disable Windows Media Center or prevent it from running in Vista. Because you said you were a 'newbie' I think this would be the easiest and sfest way for you.

Disable Windows Media Center Services
Open Services (type services.msc into Start Search). Locate all services related to Windows Media Center, such as Windows Media Center Extender Service, Windows Media Center Receiver Service, Windows Media Center Scheduler Service and Windows Media Center Service Launcher, then set their Startup Type to Disabled.

Personally I never use the WMC for a slide show. I just click on a picture in one of my folders and it opens in 'Windows Viewer', click on the big round button and it starts a slide show of only the photos in that folder. To quit just hit escape.

Thanks for your reply and help Jakeman97, the thing is i like to use and view my photos in WMC, would your suggestion disable my picture library in WMC?

The other picture program i use is Picassa, which is great, but i cannot make it randomise in Slideshow....is there any way of doing this? i have over 12,000 pic's!

Hi groundhogday,
YES, unfortunately it would completely disable WMC. I used Picassa a long time ago and have forgotten how it actually works. It was more of a viewer and less of an editor as I recall. I switched to Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 (not 'free') by any means; but it can really edit photos down to the pixel and also provides a great slide show.

Hi ...after doing a lot of searching on this forum i came across this thread from some guy who worked in microsoft i think.....he said press Start then in Search type %localappdata%%\microsoft\mediaplayer , then clear all the files but not the folders....i was a bit hesitant to do this as one of the files said "Database" i was scarred of loosing or stuffing my pc up!....but went ahead anyway....amazingly it has worked!!....it had removed that offending file "Program File" in Picture Library....problem solved.

I would like to thank that guy who posted that, it has been driving me and the wife mad ....
