Vista not reading/Writing CD/DVD

Hello there,
I'm currently having a problem here,
My Vista Business desktop seems to have stopped reading cd's and dvd's and also not writing them. it is ever since i formated it from ultimate. i've tried with and internal IDE and an external USB Drive. i know the external works perfectly as i have used it on an XP laptop. i've also tried with burnt and non burnt discs such as the Sims cd's.
my specs are as follows. Intel P4 2.93Ghz, 1.5GB ddr RAM LG slim external dvd multi drive, and an LG internal DVD RW Drive.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Braydon, go to samsung website and look for a firmware update for your dvd drive| also, try burning disk using a burning software like nero or roxio.

well, there seems to be some firmware updates lol downloading them now. Hope it works!

any one else got any ideas i can now only get my drive to read a disc if i restart the computer!

please help i dont really want to have to restart every time i want to use a cd/DVD!!

it works but only if i restart the computer every time i put a new disc in

1.Make sure the service Shell Hardware Detection is started and set to AUTO
2.Navigate to key HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom and check you have phrase Autorun =1,if is 0 fix it + restart
3.Check also this ->http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/201659-dvd-drive-icon-disappeared-computer-fix.html

4.Navigate to device manager and uninstal DVD driver +restart,system will install DVD driver back during restart
5.If everything fail download FrogAspi Frog Aspi - the FREE wnaspi32.dll replacement
place wnaspi32.dll in C:\Windows\System32 again uninstall DVD driver + restart
