Help CI.dll Corrupt or missing!!!!! i cant find any info anywhere.

. It happened after i turned off my laptop using the power button because everything was frozen. now it says CI.dll is missing or corrupt. Is it even possible to fix. can you replace the one thats there. i've tried vista repair disk but it doesnt fix it. :mad:

any help is much needed.

Follow the tutorial and run SFC/scannow.

Hi Fastboy 42,

Try downloading this -use it as a bootable cd, i.e. boot in from the cd you can make with it and it may root out any nasties.

Thankyou very much guys:D. I was just about to reinstall windows. I'm just trying both right now. I have to run sfc/scannow off the windows repair disk. SIW2's idea look interesting to. I have to try them. Hope it works :sarc:

Hi fastboy,

1. Boot into the System Recovery Options screen.
2. Click on the Command option.

Then type in sfc /scannow then press enter, like this:

I do not have CI.dll on my system, I have ci.dll. That is why I suggested the download (you will need access to another pc , of course )

You place a cdr in the cd/dvd drive - do not format it, if Autoplay pops up, just close it.

Then rt click and run as admin on the .exe you downloaded

click Run , and Ok the uac prompt. Then click burn.

You now have a bootable cd to boot into your pc and find and hopefully remove any Trojans, etc.

ci.dll is what i was supposed to say.:huh:

When i go into command prompt it doesn't have C:\windows\system32. instead it has X:\sources>

Seems to be asking for a replacement file.

If someone posts you a copy of the ci.dll from a 32 bit system you can unzip it and copy to a cd.

Then go back to the command prompt , put that cd in and direct it to your dvd drive as the source.

I don't have 32bit - sorry.

So far in my scan, this is what i have detected, Trojan.wimad and JOKE/bluescreen.a (Which must be part of the screensaver I downloaded that simulates the BSOD).:huh:

My laptop has got Vista Ultimate x86 SP1 and my Dad has got Vista Business x86 SP1.Can I copy ci.dll from Dads computer to mine or is the .dll different? :sarc:

OK i have ci.dll. how do i replace the old one?
instead of putting the file on a Cd can i put it on a Flash drive?

Could i have a little screen-shot tutorial please.:D (if its not a hassle)

Hi fastboy,

Try this:

1. Boot into the System Recovery Options screen.

2. Click on the Command option.

3. Put the cd onto which you have copied the ci.dll file in the drive

4. Assuming your optical drive is E ( if not, use whatever letter it is ) at the command prompt, type

copy E:\ci.dll C:\Windows\System32

then press enter

If prompted to overwite the existing file, type y and press enter.

Assuming it tells you it was successful, remove the cd and restart.

do you know of a bootable command prompt , so i dont have to use repair disk. the repair disk is extremely slow.

As far as I know, that's the only way to get to command if you can't boot into the operating system.

thanks;my machine is getting really slow ,there is no windows showing when i try to repair,all i get in the command prompt is "x sources:" too bad the genius at MS didnt consider a boot disk for Vista! would save a huge amount of trouble when their software bombs out.

Hi,

there should be a prompt after x sources , like this > that's where you type the copy command I posted earlier.

X:\sources>copy E:\ci.dll C:\Windows\System32

When you have copied the ci.dll to System 32 with any luck, you should be able to boot.

If not , then it is not just because ci.dll is missing or corrupt, the problem is deeper than that.

In that case I see no alternative other than reinstall - that's not so bad. If you have other issues, reinstall should sort them out as well.
