Vista Search "Everywhere"... bloated, please advise :)

Hi all :)

Im new to vista and have looked over this forum but cant seem to find an answer to my issue...which is:

I open "Computer" then press on "Searches" (on the left) and then open "Everywhere" which returns 5,000 results...PLEASE how do i clear this list.

I have rebuilt the index after removing ALL folders etc to index...now displays ZERO indexed items.

I have then turned indexing off completely on all drives (right click/properties/untick indexing option and select ALL files and subfolders)...and via admin tools/services/windows search (disabled after stopping service)

I have rebooted and still thousands of results come up under: Searches/Everywhere

Its driving me nuts :(

thanx in advance for any advice given :)

Alas those are all options i have disabled etc and still the everywhere option in searches displays a lot of results... with NO indexing turned on :(

Alas all im wanting to do is remove ALL search results (so other users of the PC cannot see anything when lodaing "searches/everywhere"

-------------------

Please note ALL other search's listed there (email, pics, recently changed, shared by me etc etc) are empty... only "Everywhere" is listing results!!!

Hi K0T4K,

Only Administrators can search the entire system unless you changed the configuration, standard users can only search their account but administrators can search multiple accounts and locations... The "searches\everywhere" folder is hidden by default unless you ticked "show all hidden and system files" under Organize> Folder and Search options, You can also delete the Everywhere from the search folder as its only a search container not a real directory or file ;)

"then you can just open the Everywhere folder and delete the contents."... i tested this on a few files. I deleted them from the "Everywhere" search folder (C:\Users\User\Searches\Everywhere.search-ms) and it deletes the ACTUAL file... not a reference!!!

I tested the deleting the "everywhere" container from C:\Users\USER\Searches\ and that will do the job quite nicely :)

Im still curious as to if you can recreate that container later though somehow (once deleted)???

Danke for the assistence!!!

P.S Im installing a game at the moment but what i did was actually copy the container to another drive, deleted the original from C:\Users\USER\Searches\ and then copied it back.... I think it has cleared the search results as so far its only bringing up files created during the game install but its lagging because the install is yet to complete.

Will let the board know how it goes once the game install is finished :)

Ok as Steve said deleteing the container is all good :)

As i said i moved it to another drive and deleted the original and then tested it by moving it back but alas it still displays thousands of results (so nope doesnt clear it out). Thats ok cause i can just delete it!!!! :D

Shawn: "If this is at the C:\Users\(user name)\Searches area, then you can just open the Everywhere folder and delete the contents." Able to test this at your end because when i delete a file from in the "Everywhere" container it actually deletes the phsyical file from its original location!!!!

None the less i have an answer and very promptely and friendly... thankyou both! :D

My Computer

I cannot. I do not have a Everywhere folder at C:\Users\(user name)\Searches.

Did you manage to restore the files you test deleted?
Only I managed to delete not only the files on my lap top but because my external hard drive was plugged in ALL of those files too....
I looked in trash on my laptop and it lets me restore some of them
Then when I want my itunes back it says MERGE or SKIP?
Do I merge or will I loose files again?
