Solved disable boot manager from popping up?

Good afternoon all,

I'm stumped.... Whenever vista loads up, it brings the windows boot manager and makes me have to press enter to boot into vista. If I press tab, it gives me the option to get into windows memory diagnostic. How do I disable all of this to boot straight into vista without having to press enter? this is vista home.


I tried all, looked around and nothing!

Insert your Vista DVD, boot your computer from cd/dvd, Select "Repair your computer" to continue and choose "startup repair".
You can do it manually, but the solution above is safer.

Not one of the suggestions above has worked for me. Is there ANYONE out there who knows how to stop the Vista Boot Manager from requiring me to click on it before Windows will start?
I am not dual booting and only one install is listed. Why should I have to click on the screen before Vista will start?

Please help.

You can try downloading and installing this program: EasyBCD 1.7.2 It's a Vista boot manager.
1. Once installed, open the program and click "Manage Bootloader" on the left side.
2. Select "Reinstall the Vista Bootloader" and click "Write MBR"
3. After that's completed, click on "Change Settings" on the left side.
4. Now lower the "Bootloader Timeout:" down to 0 and click "Save Settings".

Restart to see if it works. I hope it helps out.

I don't mean to bump up such an old thread, but I'm having the exact same problem and nothing has worked. I get a boot manager every single time even though I only have one partition and vista is the ONLY operating system installed.

I recently upgraded to vista from xp. It was a clean install from xp. I deleted windows.old folder, I tried following the instructions with msconfig > boot > and so forth, and I also tried EasyBCD and followed the instructions to no avail. I was wondering if there is another idea I could try.

Seems like there was some small conflict there. Using EasyBCD, you can try reinstalling the Vista bootloader by clicking "Manage Bootloader", then under "Bootloader Installer Options" select "Reinstall the Vista Bootloader", and finally click "Write MBR". Hopefully, this will solve your problem.

You might try this:

Open an elevated command prompt and type:

bcdedit /set {bootmgr} displaybootmenu no

Then press enter.

I followed the EasyBCD instructions to reinstall the Vista bootloader and it did not stop the boot manager. I also tried setting the bootloader timeout to 0 as written in the previous instructional post and that did not work either.

The forced stop of the boot manager through the cmd prompt worked, but it freaks out my laptop for a few seconds causing it to beep a few times. At least it skips the boot manager.

There is only one entry in the bootloader, so I don't know why Vista keeps bringing up the boot manager. Vista is also set as the default OS entry. Is it because I installed Vista over XP? Maybe there's a left over boot file that I need to delete or something? Anyway, thank you for the replies.
