Latest Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) Release

Note

The 64-bit (x64) IE9 installer is to be downloaded if you have 64-bit (x64) Windows Vista installed. The installer will have both the 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) IE9 included with the 32-bit IE9 used by default in 64-bit Windows.
The 32-bit (x86) IE9 installer is to be downloaded if you have 32-bit (x86) Windows Vista installed. The installer will only have the 32-bit (x86) IE9 included with it as the default in 32-bit Windows.
No need to uninstall IE9 RC. The IE9 RTM final will install and replace it.

Interesting Well according to the Platform preview it did well on the tests but will the Beta be any Different also I am wondering why they didn't Make it Compatible for XP

Can't wait for the final version

What with google dropping h.264 and mozilla getting whiny about it, IE9's hopefully gain some lost ground

(Although not too much, i'd hate to be back in the same position we were in with ie6!)

Well guess they were rumours and nothing else; IE 9 did not launch today. The RC launched with a promise that the final version will be released soon

Don't think anyone said in any rumors it was possibly launching as a final product today. :confused:

I installed the IE9 RC fine on my Vista Home Premium 64-bit (SP2) pc, but when i try to run the 64-bit version of IE 9, it now hangs for 20 seconds with a white internet window and closes itself automatically without anything notifying me why.

Ive uninstalled the RC and reinstalled it 2 times now and the same thing happens over and over. 32 Bit works perfectly with the exception of the Flash Player crashing from time to time.

Any way i can fix this?

Hello Mitch,

Do you have any add-ons or toolbars installed in the 64-bit IE9 RC? If so, then disable them one by one to see if one them may be the culprit.

I'm not sure what else you could do since this is still a RC build though other than waiting for the final RTM build whenever it may be released.

You could also try installing from different links in the first post, I use windows 7 32-bit version in my Vista laptop and it works fine.

Ive already done that by going to the control panel and clicking reset in the internet options menu, thus disabling all the add ons. it still doesnt work for me.
The IE 9 Beta worked perfectly in 64-bit, but now its broke im thinking on just vista. ive heard people got it working on Windows 7

Im beginning to just say it has to do with the RC and not my pc. I hope the RTM does work in 64-bit again.

Not possible if you have different OS versions. i tried that with the 64-bit link and it told me i had an incompatible OS version upon install.

You might consider sending a report with the link in the first post. Hopefully that'll help get it addressed faster and be fixed in the next release.

I just received IE 9 RC as an optional update in Windows Update - so I had to do it manually (I've been using Beta since the first week it was released). The download was simple and everything converted over nicely. So far, I don't see a lot of difference (it MIGHT be a little faster - but that may true or just my conditioned expectations - or that I don't have much open yet to really stress it). I've had no problems with it (yet) - but I really didn't have any issues with IE 9 Beta either (haven't tested Flash Player, but will shortly). It did create a new icon in Quick Launch even though there was one already there - but simply removing the duplicate was all it took (I suggest removing the new one if the old one is configured the way you want it to work and with the proper home page).

Visually, it's almost identical to IE9 Beta though I haven't gone everywhere or checked out all the options yet. The release notes mentioned a few differences, but they mostly seemed internal and not concerned with day-to-day work (except you can now show tabs on a different row than the address bar - interesting but I don't think I'll be using that feature). For those still using iE8 or earlier, it is quite different and I think you'll like it - but keep in mind it still isn't a final release though it is an RC and no longer a Beta.

I will say that the reboot to install the update was VERY long (longer than any I've yet experienced for anything) - in fact, after the update notifications and it went to Shutdown, it stayed there so long (with the hard drive working the whole time) that I came within moments of doing a hard shutdown thinking it was somehow locked up but suddenly it finished (and I'm now glad I waited since that may have caused problems). So I urge anyone trying it to be patient. It may just have been my system or may be common - I don't know - but I thought I'd mention it so anyone who does do it and experiences the same thing will be forewarned and expect it (even if it doesn't occur for everyone - or anyone else).

Now, it's just a matter of testing it over the next few days or so and checking it out a bit more thoroughly. I'll report back if I find anything interesting, problematic, or noteworthy.
