update error 80070424

Hi

I wondered whether you can help. I have been having problems with my updates on vista windows home premium x64. I get the error 80070424 also tried to update the service pack 2 and i just get the specified service does not exist as an installed service. I have tried most of the solutions on the microsoft help pages and nothing has worked. I have successfully downloaded the system update readiness tool for windows server 2008 x64 KB947821. The whole problem started when I tried to install 2010 windows home user and avast updates both had problems. Hope you can help.

I think this is cause by a registry problem. I could tell you what to change, but if I am wrong or you make an error a mistake in registry can cause major problems.
Instead try a system restore from 3 days before the problem. Hope that it works

Thanks for your reply. I have tried a manual restore point but it does not seem to have helped. I am afraid I do not know when the updates stopped working it only became a problem when I could not install microsoft office 2010 home and student and then updating different security software. I started looking into the problem and realised that it was the updates that were probably the problem. I just happen to be learning about computers as the problems arise. Hope you can help.
