Solved Update installed without my consent

Vista Home premium SP2, IE9.

Today, 4.5.2011, notification showed an update was available.
I have Windows Update set at Manual.
I was, at the time, in the middle of something. So, I let the update wait. But by the time I was done, the update was install already.
The update was just a Windows Defender KB915597, Def. 1.101.822.0

I checked the update settings... still on Manual.
I ran a Walwarebytes scan.... nothing found.

Any ideas why ?

Usually Security Essentials and Defender will up date automatically, even though set to manual. I know I have the same situation with Security Essentials.
They are being updated via defender and not automatic update.

But....
I use Avast Home Edition.
I had been manually updating Defender definition countless times. Just this time, that I noticed, was installed without me.
Weird.

How was it desginated? Important designations are set to update automatically. In addidtion, when it is downloaded and not installed by defender, yet, it will remain in upadate. Check to see how defender is set; probably to automatic. It is good to have it update automatically.
It is really not a problem.

Yha, defender does usually on its own, and usually later at night, once a week.... I think.

I just looked, and you might have it set to update before scans... and it did a scan.

Defender is set to....
Check for updated definitions before scanning.

I didn't think it would actually install the definition.

Anyway, thank you BOTH for replying. Both replies are useful.
