DNS Client has stopped working....

Have many updates to install, download of update is ok but as soon as instalation of update starts then get pop up message: DNS Client has stopped working and the instalation freezes???

also the stop instalation freezes and the laptop has to be rebooted???

please help oh wise computer knowledged freinds!!

Can you go back with system restore to a few days before the problem?

This is a problem that has been given a hot fix in one of the SPs. Are you current with the SPs?

Go to computer icon on desktop, right click then properties. Does it show SPs?

If not tell me what you see.

Assume that you bought Vista when it first came out.
As time went on Microsoft sent updates. Then as more time passed, they put all the updates and more in one big update. It was called sp1. The same happend with the sp2 package. You can see this information on properties of your computer icon.

If you have no SPs, that can be the problem.

What do you see: automatic, off etc?
It should be automatic and started

Have you tried this yet: Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2

When your computer has a power failure during an update install, the likeliest issue are corrupt .cat and .mum files. If this is the case, then this is the only fix which is going to get us somewhere.

Please run the above, and navigate to C:\Windows\Logs\CBS and copy CheckSUR.log to your Desktop, and then upload it here.
