I recently had to restore my notebook to factory conditions to take care of some malware. The restoration worked perfectly and my computer was up and running. After opening Windows, I downloaded and installed the Google Chrome browser and installed or uninstalled nothing else.
This morning, however, I woke up to find a Bad Image error on one of my system32 files. The only changes my system underwent between the system restoration was the downloading and installation of an update bundle for Windows Vista and the download and installation of Google Chrome.
I searched for the problem online and found only one tech forum in which a similar problem occured. One of the admins suggested to the original poster that the windows update "reacted badly" to some software on the computer and "instead of damaging windows, it damaged the system".
I ran and sfc/scannow, 100% Verification in which the files were detected but could not be repaired.
This is not the first time this has happened. A few months ago, another Bad Image error caused me to have no sound on my notebook, this too immediately following an update.
Any solutions/similar cases out there?
