CAPICOM update not allowing configuring

I have Vista Home Basic on my laptop. I have been trying not to get the CAPICOM update that was back in July 2010. Every time I try now to start the computer, the message comes on the screen:

Configuring Updates: Stage 3 of 3 0% Complete.
Do not turn off computer.

Progress never happens. Computer even shuts down, but then this message still happens.

I even tried to not get the CAPICOM update from automatic updates, but this last time, it must have come through.

Any help is appreciated.

But how do I get this message off the screen when I start up the computer? That is my problem now. I cannot get anywhere. The message that it is configuring updates comes up when I start up my computer.

You don't understand what I am asking. When I start my computer, the first thing it does is come up with the screen mentioned in the beginning of the thread. I tried all types of safe mode and the same thing happens.

The only thing I can do is do the F2 process. Nothing comes up in windows except the message that I am configuring updates. I cannot abort that process.

Is there a way I can bypass this when I do F2 (which gets me to the start up process)?

I did not understand, a bigger problem than I realized. Are you given a choice in f2 and if necessary are your documents etc backed up?

Yes, I can access via F2, but don't know what to do after that. I tried it in safe mode (sometimes that comes up when I turn the computer on) and the same thing happens.

What is the model and name of your computer. For example Dell xps20?

If your documents are safe, I checked out the manual for Everex, did not know the model. Try hitting f10. That is the recovery option. See if that helps.

If you cant get the recovery partition to work the other way is to use the recovery disc.

There are two ways to solve this problem, one is to boot into the recocvery console with the DVD
or
To use (normally) an f key to get you to repairs.

If neither work we are talking about an install.
