After trying to update my vista from my regular user acct, I'm given a message that I do not have the authority to update (this is new within the past 3 months). After speaking with both HP and MS customer service (?) tech support (?), I was told that I can only update my windows from and Administrator acct login. I have never wanted one or needed one since I'm the only person using my laptop, and, I thought they were full of bull, which is usually the case. Yes, if I logout of my regular user acct and log into the administrator acct, (no passwords used), I can update vista with no problem, other than the hassle of doing such. I was told I could move everything from my user acct to my admin acct (simple suggestion, not simple to do), I laughed a hearty laugh, cursed MS under my breath and said goodbye to the tech (he said it was very hot in India this time of year). Never having used the Admin login acct before, I noticed that it was full of all kinds of crap I didn't want and wouldn't use and logout of it as soon as my vista up updated. I don't use automatic update because I don't want IE 8 downloaded behind my back. It will be interesting to see if others have this problem and even been able to fix it so I can update vista like I used to from my regular acct.:sa:
