For info:
When troubleshooting another issue, I looked through my Event Viewer logs. Under setup, I found an error indicating an update had failed to install.
(The Windows update "Hotfix for Windows (KB954708)" could not be installed because of an error: 2149842966 "" (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows Live\.cache\9cd6e45f1c9e616\Windows6.0-KB954708-x86.msu" /quiet /norestart ")
In the WU update history, there was no indication of any failed update. I installed the KB from the MS web site and it installed nicely.
So, it it seems that lack of listings of failed updates in Windows Update is no bullet proof indication no installation failed.
