Cannot access windows update catalog

I'm running Vista Ultimate and IE7. I have been trying to access the Windows Update Catalog on http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/. It immediately takes me to http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Install.aspx and asks me to download an ActiveX control which I do. I then get an Internet Explorer Add-On Installer warning, to which I click on Install. However, thereafter nothing happens and the page remains static. I don't get any error messages, but the page does not navigate away from the Install page.

Any ideas regarding what the problem may be? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for this. I have no problem accessing Windows Update.

Nevertheless, I tried your links, but it doesn't help. I still can't use the Catalog Update site as described in my earlier email.
