Hi, i just found this forum due to a wierd problem i am having...
my PC WAS set to auto d/l and instal updates, it did this last night and rebooted.
This morning when i came down and logged in i found that after the update all my desktop game short cuts where gone (there where 10) as well as the full contents of my quick launch bar.
i ran Firefox to go online and it ran as if it was it's first time since instal (been running firefox for months), all my bookmarks where gone. went to look for i.e. and the shortcut was nowhere to be found, i eventualy ran it by going into it's program file, i.e. was also missing all of the bookmarks that should have been in there.
while trying to find the missing files i noticed that in my user folder there where 2 of all the folders. i.e. 2x Documents, 2x Favorites, 2x My music, video's & pictures etc etc.. the folders where duplicated but the contents where not (didnt think it possible to have 2 folders with the exact same name in the same location but there they where!)
I did a system restore to yesterday afternoon which was several hours before i noticed the "New updates are available" icon and it was no different. i eventualy went back a few days with system restore and got all my stuff back.
While doing this i turned off my modem so these troublesome updates couldn't instal automaticly, when the system restore had finished i turned off the auto updates and set it to notify me rather than d/l & instal them but as i was doing this the "New updates are available" icon apeared in my task bar again
The updates awaiting instal at the moment are:
I am realy unsure what to do next and i cant seem to find incidents of anyone else having this problem, any help or advice would be realy apreciated.
Thanks,
Mike.
