Windows update notification, gone?

I have my windows update setting set to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them." Though, recently I've noticed that windows update doesn't notify me about new update like it has done before, where a icon in the tray popped up and notified me about new updates. Anyone know why? And how i can get it back to normal? I like to get notified when new updates are out, don't like to open windows update, and see there is some important updates that's been waiting for a week or two.

Thanks for the response.
I've tried that windows update reset tool, but it didn't bring back the notify balloon on new updates.
