Security essentials fails to complete scan

Hello,
My Microsoft security essentials is failing on this folder:
C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-v..e-filters-tvdigital_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18672_none_dbb394ae574689ac
And here:
C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-v..e-filters-tvdigital_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18000_none_dbfd382a570fa47d
No errors were detected up to the point of the failure.
These failures were on two separate scans. I ran dskchk before the second scan. No errors were found but it didn't seem to help.
When I run a custom scan on those two folders it works OK and reports no errors.
When I first installed security essentials it did do a full scan successfully.

I don't think it is a bad disk because custom scan worked and dskchk was OK.

I am looking for help toward completing a full scan.

OK, I'll try that tonight
I just custom scanned all of the folders in C:\Windows\winsxs
Scan completed on 141,531 items
No threats detected , no stopping.

I understand that you want MSE to work properly. Many of the seniors at the Forum, including myself use the free Avast or Panda. They are both excellent.

No Joy.
I started Security essentials in safe mode at 7:43 PM on the 17th. At 11:44 PM it stopped with error type hang on file
C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-v..e-filters-tvdigital_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18000_none_dbfd382a570fa47d\psisrndr.ax

Since Microsoft is not accepting any problem reports on Security Essentials I am going to find another security program.
My wife has Webroot and she is pleased with it.

Microsoft Security Essentials only covers the basics of PC security and defence.
I recommend Panda or Avast, especially Avast as they will be giving out virus definitions even after they stop making new software versions.

Hi DixieKongJD, I'm actually pretty happy with MSE these days. I don't seem to encounter many viruses, but MSE did detect and quarantine one ransomware trojan before it could hold my files for ransom. I sometimes scan my Vista PC with antivirus rescue discs (Bitdefender, Kaspersky), and they confirm that it is clean. MSE's lackluster test scores have actually been on the rise lately: Microsoft's Antivirus Scores Soar | PCMag.com.

Still, I just might try Avast sometime. Brink obviously thinks highly of Avast, since he maintains a sticky thread here that announces each new version. However I was badly burned by Panda, which gave me nothing but problems, and I do mean nothing (two false positives, one BSOD and two PSANHost crashes until the day it attacked my system in earnest, forcing me to do a factory restore since I hadn't yet learned to use Macrium Reflect to make images).

I don't know why I mentioned Panda, probably because I couldn't think of any others except 360 security and AVG (the former being Chinese, and the latter not being updated a lot) - that idiotic AV decided 7-Zip was a trojan or something.

Good, I don't actually have an AV installed right now, if it gets better still, I'll probably install it again, because MSE is pretty light anyway.
