Clean install vista from recovery partition in D drive also clean virus?

Hi,

Due to some corruptions in files system that can't be repair. I decide to do a clean install of vista from recovery partition preinstalled in D drive.

My question is does the clean install also clean out any hidden/unactive virus/rootkit if i format the laptop to its factory condition?

I have tried various AV software on this old laptop but the results come out clean but I still suspect there're some remain hidden as the system is slowly corrupted.

The answer is yes it will, if you do a destructive install (Format "C") & it has not infected any other drives.

So, what drives do you have on your system? "C" (System) & "D" (Recovery) plus DVD/CD drives.

Do you have anything else? USB plug in hard drives or USB memory sticks etc. etc.

For Lottiemansion: I do not have any other USB drive. I just have C drive, D drive (recovery), and Dvd/cd drive.
My laptop was infected with a fake anti-virus the other day but I manage to sweep it out using system restore but I do not know if it has time to infect the D drive (recovery) yet. Although I have sweeped the computer with both malwarebyte and webroot and the results came out clean, but I just want to be sure it does not contain any hidden core of the virus. Do you know any method to detect that?

Hi,

"D" drive should be safe & if your restore point was clean then you should be OK.

A fully updated Malwarebytes scan would find it if it was there!

To check you are safe, do a full system scan (all files & folders on both drives) with the updated Malwarebytes, just to be sure.

Please bear in mind how it got there in the first place.

i.e. downloaded film or software file etc. etc. just so you don't do it again! ok?
