Yesterday my laptop took a big hit. I am no way a software/computer guy.
..
First, these are the apps / programs I am running, that hopefully are relevant.
1) M.S. Defender (I can manually turn everything off, when I go to the home page, it states I am fully protected..Still haven't figured that one out...
2) Free version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware..I believe it is only active when I turn the sweep on?, Is that a true observation on my part??
3) Paid version of Webroot anti virus W/ spy sweeper 7.0.4.127.
My questions: I think most here would recommend M.I.S. rather than Microsoft defender...If that is true, should I un-install the defender before installing the M.I.S.?
Also does anyone see any conflicts between these apps. I am currently running???
Back to yesterdays big crash....I was lucky enough to enter Task manager and do a restore point, went back arbitrarily to the time my machine seemed to be accepting M.S. updates.
The only major thing I changed was the DEP so I could down load a fight sim C.D. a few days back. Used it for several years before, W/O any problems, I un-stalled it about a year ago. I have not installed it since the recovery and changed the DEP back to its original setting...(Could that have caused such a Major inciedent??)
Also, (After the restore), I have changed my M.S. updates so I can download but I can choose when I want to install them.. When I download and Install the updates do I have to let the machine cycle through a start up each time for every installation??
Of course, my machine specs are listed.
Thanks a bunch in advance for any help/suggestions..
Alex
