Windows Sidebar Virus?

Well I've read on here that you cannot uninstall Windows Sidebar. I would like to know if this is true, and if so, why anyone would such a ridiculous thing? A Trojan Horse is somewhere in my computer, and I'm fairly certain that it's hidden itself in the sidebar. The gadget window opened itself one day and started adding a whole bunch of the "calendar" gadget. Every time that I try to remove one of these gadgets, my computer freezes and I have to shut it down. I've done countless virus scans, and they claim that they've removed all the viruses, but my computer still freezes when I try to remove the gadgets.

Please help me somebody!! :cry:

I don't think a trojan can "hide" in the sidebar. You must have another problem that is causing that strange behavior. Have a look into the Event Viewer whether you see any unexplainable events. Besides, you can always close the sidebar - just right click on it > close.

What programs did you do your scans with?
I recommend MalwareBytes to start with.

I have scanned with Malwarebytes and AVG and they found trojans and quarantined one, but I think there is still one left somewhere that couldn't be found. I don't think that hiding the sidebar would help anything...ignorance is not exactly bliss, seeing as how my computer is running marginally slower than before. If it's not a trojan, I really don't know what's wrong with it...I may just take it in to a repair place.

How do you get to the Event Viewer?

OK Before you spend any money on it try some other things first.
Press Windows key and R, type CMD, right click and run as administrator
In the box that opens type sfc /scannow and press enter.
If it finds any errors run it again.
When that has finished go to computer,C: (if that is where your operating system is) right click and go to Properties,Tools,Error Checking, Check Now.
Tick both boxes and click start. It will tell you it is unable to and schedule a check disc for next restart. Restart your computer.

Click the Windows orb icon at the bottom-left of the screen.

Type Event Viewer

A shortcut to Event Viewer should appear in the left pane of the Start menu.

Start > Right click on Computer > Manage > look in the top left pane.
