My friend recently installed some software, which was conflicting with Vista's UAC. Then a couple of days ago, I had a security alert prompting me to check my settings. Everything seemed fine except UAC was turned off. I turned it back on and restarted, it didn't appear. Then the next day it appeared. I can activate it - so it says it is on, but then once my computer is restarted it turns off .
I have now removed the program and checked the registry, which both seem to work fine, and yet the UAC stills changes at startup.
Have you got a system restore point from before the problem started? You should do, because windows creates restore points before updating.
To find what system restore points you have:
Click on the start menu
Navigate to Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
Click on it
It should then display a screen like this:
Select 'Choose a different restore point'
Then select next
Then select 'Show restore points older than 5 days'
It should then show you a screen like so:
This will list all of your system restore points, don't do a system restore yet, do you have a restore point from before the problem begun?
It will be great to know what software your friend has installed, was it a shareware or Freeware??!!!!
If it is genuine software please give the correct version and other details.
I didn't say that he should create a restore point, I said that he should restore from one. Creating one will only make a backup of the problem (and the software that caused the problem).
