Solved What`s the difference between 2009 or 2010 antivirus

I`m sorry if this question seems a bit naive, but this is something that`s never been cristal clear to me. If I was to have a 2009 anti-virus that hasn`t been installed on a computer yet, & I decide to install it tomorrow. Will it protect me against current threats, or not? Isn`t the fact that you get updates the most important thing with an anti-virus? So what`s the difference?
Basically, can I use a 2009 anti-virus program in 2010?
Thanks in advance!!:)

You are protected against all threats, regardless of the edition. The different editions are marketing ploys. Faster, better, etc; according to the manufacturers. After a few years, (maybe about 4 or 5) they may stop sending updates, but until then everything is the same

I suggest that you use Windows Security Essentials. Free a/v from Microsoft especially for windows users.

Thanks so much for your help.
The reason I`m asking this is because there`s a guy on my town`s market that sells the 2009 edition of Karpersky`s antivirus, good for 5 computers, & only 7 pounds. It seems really tempting, so I just wondered if this edition would protect me for 2010. I`m using Karpersky at the moment, & everything seems fine, but it`s running out next month. Before this I used Mc Afee, & I didn`t like it much, mainly cos it allowed a Trojan Warm in my computer, & someone stole my credit card details & spent all my money :( I have read a lot of bad reviews on Mc Afee in this Forum, as well.
My other option is to go for the free anti-virus, as you`re recommending me. I`ve read reviews on this Forum, & people seem to be happy with this free AVG. I always thought that free meant that the quality wasn`t as good, but it doesn`t seem that way for what I read.

Thanks again!!:)

If you get a much price go with the earlier version, you will not be sorry. It like a new car, buy 2009 cheap, buy 2010 much more expensive. Both use gas and get you where you are going.

Ok...I will get this 2009 karspersky, then. It`s a bargain, cos Karspersky is normally quite expensive, over 30 pounds here.
Thanks for that!!:)

But wait another idea. Windows Security Essentials is free and very good. Many here use it. You may want to give that a try first. If interested I will get you the URL address.

Here is the link. Many members of the forum use this and
this will save you 7 pounds. With the pay Anti Virus every year you have to pay to continue to get the virus updates.

Give this a try.
