Other programs that blocks applications

Hiya guys need help..I'm not computer savy so i thought about looking for help here. Anyway i wanted to find out if there are other applications that block programs from running successfully other than firewall. I'm using windows vista home premium. Because there's this game that i've been trying to play and it says server offline everytime i try to run it even though it isn't. It's one of those MMORPG's type of game. I've already set it so that firewall will enable the program to run but that didn't help much lol. So any ideas?

Are you connected to a router? Many routers have a built in firewall and will automatically block certain ports. You can try PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall to help you configure it if thats the case. You will likely need to find out what ports the game requires open to work. Sometimes you can find this on the readme file, or in the FAQ or troubleshooting section of the game creator's website.
