I have problems connecting to the Internet at home. I can connect to my home network, I just can't access the Internet. My brother, however, can on his laptop.
When I run the 'Diagnose Connection Problems' tool, I get the following message:
'Security policy settings on this computer might be blocking the connection.
The following policy might need to be adjusted to allow Windows to connect:
Policy Provider: Windows Firewall
Filter Name: Query User
If the policy provider is identified is Windows Firewall, click for information about adjusting Windows Firewall settings. If a different policy provider has been identified, check the provider's documentation on how to adjust the policy settings.'
I followed the guides found here :http://www.vistax64.com/vista-security/162718-windows-firewall-problem-filter-query.html, and encountered a few problems, but pressed on anyway, only to find I have the same problem as before.
For those that can't be bothered to look at the link, it basically tells me to use the ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew tools within the Command Prompt Window.
It then says to reset the TCP/IP Stack, and to flush the DNS.
As it says to do it in that order, I did it in that order.
Can anyone tell me the messages I should get within the Command Prompt Window upon successful execution of the above commands, or if I am doing them in the wrong order (if it really matters).
If no one can help, then this is my last resort and I will simply buy a new laptop, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
