Anti-virus For Vista 64 bit

I'm new to the forum and would like to say hello to everyone. I also have just finshed installing Vista Home Premium 64 bit as a dual boot along with my XP Pro. I'm keeping XP for now so that some of my older games can still be played. What I would like to know is could someone recommend a 64 bit anti-virus program for me ? After reading through the forum it appears most people don't like the free verisons so I'm asking for your recommendations at this point. I've been using Avast with my XP but I'm not sure it's good enough. Thanks for your help and advice.

I've been happily using Kaspersky, but with the latest build (7.0.125) I've noticed a drastic increase in system resource usage. It seems NOD32 has a pretty good reputation around here. You can always use trial versions to see which works best on your rig.

Avast seems to be the free AV of choice around here ;)

Thanks , Avast is what I use with XP now. I guess I just wanted to make sure that since I'm running a new OS that I was up to par on it. I appreciate all the help . You folks have a really nice forum here.

I wonder if I could get away with putting AVG on the partition with Vista and leave Avast on the XP partition ? Would this cause a conflict ? If not then I'd have two defenses of protecting my pc.

I have been using AVG Free Edition 7.5 simply because it is light on resources, works well, and I have it configured in a way that makes it completely transparent for day-to-day usage.

Im usin eset smart security its pretty good, uses low ram and cpu, has antivirus antispyware personal firewall and anti spam protections.

I like antivir. Some tests claim it to have the highest detection rating amonst the other free antivirus software. I never liked AVG because of its looks and the same is for Avast. AVG interface seems a bit outdated and Avast is a bit to funky for me. Also, I'm dual-booting Vista and XP and I have a separate antivirus program for each OS. I don't think they conflict with each other.

It may have something to do with my age, but I tend to think that the old adage: "You get what you pay for." carries some weight. I've used Kaspersky for a good while and I've been very pleased with it. ;)

From what I have witnessed Anti Vir and Avast both support x64 bit Vista and are freebeez. I have used them both and they work good. I can't complain. At least we got options for being a x64 bit user right? :o)

I use Kaspersky also for 64 bit. The only thing I haven't figured out yet is how to tell it to not do a full scan when I'm playing a game or the hard drives are being defragmented. Really annoying, not to mention dangerous during a defrag.

^You can configure it to do a Full Scan at a time when your PC is IDLE .
You can access it by going to "Settings/Scan/My Computer and in the "Run mode" you can change the time of the scan.

Consider also a quality defrager. Diskeeper - Maximizing computer performance and reliability automatically utilizing defrag
Diskeeper manages my drives VERY well without me having to lift a finger, plus it gets along with everything I run.
